Ou Allons Nous
A sonic postcard by DinahBird of Les Champs Libres, Rennes. Commissioned by Electroni(k) and the city of Rennes.
Les Champs Libres, Rennes is not a place that has an immediate sonic signifier.
It is a building that houses the museum of Brittany, a library, a planetarium and a science museum and is built on the town’s former coach station. The place always has been, and still is, somewhere that people pass through.
Before my residency I decided to ask the people who work in the building to note down their everyday observations of the place, from the view out the office window onto the grass verge, to the ticks and coughs of the library user, unaware and absorbed in his book.
Out of these automatic, mundane ‘yellow sticky thoughts’ came a script that reflects the many fleeting passages of time spent in the building. They are distinct and separate thoughts, and sometimes differents versions of the same event, seen through another pair of eyes, told through another voice… on another day.
Ou Allons Nous ( Where are We Going ) resumes my feelings after having spent a week recording on location, where should I turn next ?
