An Earful of Italy
An Earful of Italy (Aug 2006) was an acoustic ecology project conceived for the Italian rural media art festival, Interferenze. Through a series of informal workshops it encouraged local people, from small children to older people, to become more aware of sound in the landscape.. Participants were asked to describe a favourite, forgotten or lost sound and talk about what meaning it held for them.

IMPROVe ( Richard Widerberg and Zeenath Hasan ) collect sound via a mobile device and then send them to a computer where they can be played back into a soundsystem. The same mobile device controls the playback of the collected sounds.

The Earful of Italy presentation ended with a live improvisation between the public using IMPROVe to control sounds through mobile telephones and laptops.

The software-interactive section of the festival was curated by Juha Huuskonen.
